Jessica is a specialist family law barrister. In addition, Jessica is a Deputy District Judge on the South Eastern circuit, and sits in the FRC specialising in financial remedy cases. Jessica is Fee-Paid Judge in the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber where she undertakes mental health cases.
Jessica is experienced in all aspects of family law, with a particular interest in public law. Jessica welcomes instructions from all parties; Local Authorities, parents, family members, children and Guardians. Jessica undertakes complex cases such as fabricated illness, non-accidental injuries, sexual abuse and international placements. Jessica also has extensive experience of adoption matters.
In private law Jessica has represented parties where there are serious allegations of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and intractable contact. Jessica also has particular interest in surrogacy and gender recognition/identity.
Jessica has undertaken financial remedies involving multi-million pound estates, and international assets and can provide pre-proceedings advice and consultation. Her experience as sitting as a Judge in the FRC provides her with invaluable expertise in this area of family law.
Through her work in the mental health tribunal, Jessica has detailed knowledge and insight into people with complex mental health difficulties. She is an experienced practitioner in representing clients who have complex mental health needs. In addition Jessica has a strong reputation in representing clients with learning difficulties and other disabilities.
Prior to joining the Bar Jessica interned at the Women’s Legal Centre in Cape Town which led to her interest in family law. She also interned at the United Nations South Asian Legal Centre in Delhi.
During her time at University Jessica was the President of the UCL Amnesty International Society, participating in campaigns against domestic violence and the death penalty. The society was awarded “society of the year” award by Amnesty International following her first year of presidency.
