Joanne commenced pupillage in October 2023 focusing on all areas of family law under the supervision of Neil Kerr and and now able to take instructions. 

Joanne was previously a Legal Adviser to Family Magistrates across London for 3 years. Within this role Joanne:

  • advised the family court on a broad range of family law matters
  • regularly assisted and facilitated parties and representatives in reaching agreement sometimes on sensitive and sometimes legally complex matters
  • put questions to witnesses in domestic abuse cases on behalf of the court where parties were prohibited from cross-examining each other
  • reformulated questions from self-represented parties to ensure they were relevant and appropriate
  • developed ability to prepare last minute cases and quickly identifying the relevant reading, key issues and advice that the court needed to be given
  • presided upon FHDRA hearings in the Legal Adviser only court. 

 

As a Legal Adviser, Joanne was instrumental in delivering training where she: 

  • Created and delivered bitesize training sessions to Magistrates and colleagues on Non-Molestation and Occupation Orders 
  • Delivered Judicial College training to Magistrates remotely and in person across London 
  • Tailored training to suit all levels of the Magistracy  
  • Led training on private law applications (Section 8, SGOs and Parental Orders), public law applications (Care, Supervision and EPOs) and more general matters such as McKenzie Friends, domestic abuse and case preparation.

 

Joanne was also trained as a specialist in the Reciprocal Enforcement of Maintenance Orders and had the benefit of receiving continuous training from the Judicial College in all areas of family law.

 

Joanne also has experience working in family law solicitors for both a sole practitioner and a nationwide firm which will help her to anticipate the needs of her clients and those instructing her in due course.
